Hi, I'm Alex Luft.

I came to Canada from Germany in 2007 and have called southern Manitoba home ever since. I studied computer engineering at the University of Manitoba, finished my Bachelor of Science in 2015, and went straight into building software for industrial equipment.

For more than ten years that was my world: embedded software that has to run for years without anyone touching it, the build pipelines that produce it, automated test systems that catch mistakes before they ship, and the security hardening that keeps it locked down. It is not glamorous work, but it teaches you to build things properly, to test everything, and to keep it simple enough that it still works a decade later.

WebDone started with a simple idea: local businesses deserve a great web presence without the agency price tag. The plumber, the restaurant, the family shop on Main Street, they are the businesses that hold a town together, and most of them are invisible online or paying far too much to be seen. I did not think that was fair, and I knew I had the skills to change it.

Starting a company was new ground for me. I had spent my career on the engineering side, where someone else found the customers. This time it was on me to build the product, set a price I could stand behind, and earn every client one at a time. I chose the simplest model I could: one flat price, a free preview before anyone pays, a site the customer owns outright, and me answering the email. No sales team, no upsells, no fine print.

It is the start of my life as an entrepreneur, and I take every single site personally, because my name is on it. The engineering habits came with me. Build it properly, test it on a real phone, keep it simple enough to still work years from now.
